Hello Worthington! Here's your recap of the November 20th Worthington Together Community Choices Webinar. This session marked the halfway point of the city's comprehensive planning process, with consultants and city staff presenting draft concepts for key areas of town.
Below are brief summaries of the most significant discussions. For those interested in the full details, we've included links to longer articles.
Three Concepts Unveiled for Central Worthington
The planning team presented three distinct visions for the "Central Focus Area"—a large redevelopment opportunity spanning both sides of High Street that includes the former Anthem site, the City Hall complex, and 1033 High Street. One concept proposes relocating City Hall to create a new civic campus around public green space. Another features a five-acre park with an amphitheater and a connected greenway system. A third maximizes buffer zones between new development and existing neighborhoods.
Importantly, the team isn't asking residents to pick a winner—they want to understand which elements people support to inform a refined plan.
City Finances, Wilson Bridge, and Development Updates
City Manager Robyn Stewart reported that Worthington's finances are currently strong with healthy reserves, though she noted the city is monitoring Worthington Steel's planned headquarters relocation outside the city within the next year.
The webinar also featured the Wilson Bridge corridor as a key opportunity area. The planning team's draft vision calls for transforming underutilized office buildings into a vibrant, walkable gateway with mixed-use development, improved pedestrian connections, and safer crossings of High Street. Developer Crawford Hoying has acquired five buildings on West Wilson Bridge Road, with preliminary discussions expected in spring 2025.
